How to Stay Grounded in your Spirituality

Posted in Self-Care and Self-Healing

I once thought that cultivating my spirituality would solve all my problems. I just had to become all loving, joyful and angelic and then whoosh! Life would be eternally wonderful. Unfortunately it’s not this simple.

There’s certainly a strong appeal to wanting to escape from the world into an airier, more transcendent state. But what if we could expand our spiritual awareness without running away from the physical realities of this earth-bound life?

The most difficult part is knowing when we’re ungrounded and then realising the value in coming back down to earth. There are certainly times when we intend to leave the density behind as we meditate, pray, sing mantra, use a substance of some sort, or get all carried away with a new spiritual learning. But there are also times when we’re simply going about our daily lives and we realise that we’re completely away with the fairies.

Both of these situations can lead to an ungrounded state of being and if you have anything resembling a regular life such as a family, car, home, job, pet, friends and actually, even just a physical body, both are problematic.

So what do we mean by ‘ungrounded’? It means that our awareness is focused outside of our physicality and our earth connection. We’re lost in thoughts, ideas, worries, creative inspiration, philosophical meanderings or spiritual devotion. We may even be giving a large chunk of our awareness to another person such as a lover, guru, teacher or author, giving our power and sense of self to them.

Being ungrounded creates a scenario where we’re not able to be fully present and healthily engaged with life. Here’s seven nasty side-effects:

  1. We become accident prone, forgetful and vague
  2. We’re not able to communicate effectively or consider other people’s needs properly
  3. We make poor choices around money, caring for our health, substance use and who to trust
  4. Our intuition becomes faulty because mental chatter interferes
  5. We get carried away with newly formed beliefs, business schemes and creative projects and fail to take practical matters into consideration
  6. We distance ourselves from anyone who doesn’t support our new world view
  7. The general feel of life becomes stressful and frustrating and we become disconnected from the people we love

So that’s the downside of being ungrounded. Here’s some suggestions for how we might strike the right balance between inspired and functional:

  • Get into your body with yoga, dancing, walking in nature bare-footed, beating a drum, swimming, sitting on the ground outdoors to meditate and leaning against and hugging trees
  • Pay attention to your breathing. Each time you become aware of getting carried away with your thoughts, place your hand on your stomach and consciously breathe in and out a few times
  • Use moments of eating and drinking to be fully present with what’s going into your mouth and give thanks for what you’re receiving
  • Practice active listening when talking with the people in your life. Look at them, take note of their body language, be curious about how they’re feeling and ask questions to clarify what they’re saying and reflect your understanding of what they’ve said, maybe like this: “So it sounds like your saying….”
  • Cultivate an awareness of having your feet on the earth at all times. Take your attention to your feet multiple times a day and notice how they’re making contact with the ground
  • Start the day with a visualisation of beams of light or roots coming out of the bottom of your feet and travelling down into the earth beneath you. Consciously anchor yourself to the planet and know that you’re always supported by that earth energy

When we’re grounded we’re calm, wise and thoughtful. All of the qualities that I reckon might just bring us a better world. Don’t you agree?

The Five Big Benefits of Living from Inner Guidance

Posted in Live From Intuition

We all follow our gut feelings from time to time in life. And yet how many of us are tied inexplicably to the mind when it comes to making the majority of our bigger life decisions? It’s what we’ve been taught, it’s how others around us live right?

So just imagine how differently you might feel if I told you your mind was never designed to run the show and that your inner wisdom knows far more about who you are and what you need than your mind could ever comprehend?

When I cast my mind back to my life just eight short years ago, I can see I had intuitive abilities and I can acknowledge that my inner wisdom guided me to some pretty huge life decisions to my ultimate benefit. Walking away from my first marriage was one, choosing my current husband another, and it certainly played a strong role in the first couple of homes he and I bought as 20-something year-olds all those years ago.

Not my home but I can walk here in ten minutes from mine. Follow your bliss people...
Not my home but I can walk here in ten minutes from mine. Follow your bliss people…

And yet for all those everyday decisions; what to wear, what to eat, how to exercise, what job to take, how to handle money and just generally how to live, I followed information from my mind, the media, books, my parents… you know, from outside my inner self.

What I know now is that I can live far more successfully, calmly, joyfully and healthily by accessing my inner guidance for each and every daily choice I make. Now this is still a conscious process for me the majority of the time. I need to pause and ask inwards for guidance.  It takes a couple of seconds and I’m fully aware of doing it.

What I’m now seeing occasionally though is this instant knowing about what will serve me best when faced with some options and there’s no need to pause and check in with myself. Sounds cool huh? So what I’d love you to gain from this article is the understanding that I’m a self-taught intuitive, I’m no more intuitive than the average person and possibly less naturally intuitive than you.  Yes, it could easily be true.

I want to share with you how much easier and fun it’s made my life and how little I miss the old mentally overwhelmed, frustrated and confused me. So, here are the Five Big Benefits that come with living from inner guidance:

  1. Your physical health improves, as what to eat and how to move each day becomes crystal clear
  2. Your relationships become easier and more aligned with your pure nature as you attract the people into your life who match your truthful self-expression
  3. It’s easier to express your individual creativity because you have greater connection to and faith in your divine light
  4. You feel naturally drawn to work that is fun, meaningful and easy for you because it becomes unsustainable to work in roles that do not feed your soul
  5. The deep understanding that you are a spiritual being spending some time in this physical existence becomes clearer and you feel more motivated to follow your dreams and make the most of this life

That all sounds pretty exciting to me, and believe me, since learning to live this way, this is how my life feels now.  If you’re interested in getting some help from me with learning how to follow your inner guidance just click here to learn more.

You Are Not What’s Happened to You

Posted in Live From Intuition, Live Your Passions, and Trust The Universe

In a couple of sessions with my beautiful clients this week I’ve found myself talking about the big versus the small view of our lives, well perhaps more our existence than our ‘lives’.

You know, the idea we are on this planet, a spiritual being having a physical experience for this finite time period and then, well then, who knows but I’ve got a feeling we continue to exist as spiritual beings beyond and indeed did prior to this lifetime we are currently in.

So if that’s true and hey, it’s just my belief, you are very welcome to register a skeptical facial expression right now…

Anyway, so I feel this is true and yet this life I’m having right now does feel very important, very absorbing and you know, I really identify with me as a person in this lifetime and all that I have experienced, not to mention all my dreams for the future.  So how do I put that all into perspective with regard to my belief that I am an eternal being not who but that will exist beyond this human life?

What I’m talking about here is living life from the viewpoint (the very liberating viewpoint I think), that what we know about the story of our time here in this current life is not the full story or the whole picture and that we have a bigger story, a more expansive existence that goes on beyond the comprehension of our limited human minds.

Now I’m not suggesting for a moment that our human lives here and now are not important or not to be revered and valued immensely, no, not at all.  We are certainly here to experience all that our souls very carefully set out to explore, discover, sense, feel, enjoy and endure when we made the choice to come and have this life.

What I’m hoping to elucidate (cool word), is that although we must take these lives of ours seriously enough that we engage, learn, relate, embrace, evolve and create as a direct result of all that we experience, perhaps from time to time, we could also take an imaginary step back from what we are feeling, suffering with, recovering from, catastrophising and even celebrating and realise…

This is not all there is to me, this is only my small story, I’m bigger and the infinite universe that is my true home is far bigger than this life event.

Phew, profound huh?

Wait, there’s more…

The things that have happened to me in this life have nothing at all to do with my inherent goodness as a divine soul, nor how I am loved beyond the stars and back again by the love energy that created All.

When we have the capacity to take this mental step back and view our lives from a more objective, less personal standpoint we are more likely to have the courage to chase our dreams, speak up for what we believe in and make choices that well, put simply, make us happy.  We are less likely to live in automatic pilot, put up with abuse from others or go on punishing ourselves with regret and guilt over past actions.

It’s all been happening for you, you can see that more easily when you take the BIG picture perspective. You’ve gained far more than what you may feel you’ve lost.  And ultimately, what it all boils down to is this:

You are loved

You are loved

You are love

That’s all <3

Feel The Fear but Don’t Let it Run Your Life

Posted in Live From Intuition, and Live Your Passions

Two whole years ago I launched a dance class for women in a community hall in my town.  I’d only been living here for six months when I began this bold new venture and to be completely blunt, it failed.

Sure, a few women turned up, I had some fun (in only slightly greater measure than the terror), and I met the most lovely and inspiring 73 year old woman who became a friend and meditation buddy.

I wrote this post: The Healing Power of Dance as I began this short but sweet journey in 2012

These feet just wanna dance!
These feet just wanna dance!

So, here I am again, I’ve booked the space, created a flyer and started publicising it in facebook.  In just under two weeks I’ll be leading a healing dance class for women in my little country town.

This time I have a much bigger network of contacts to invite, I am more in tune with my inner guidance and open to receiving spontaneous inspiration moment by moment AND I’m still scared.

The fear is with me every time I think about it, when I ponder the music selection and when I tell anyone about it.

And….I’m doing it anyway.  I’ve spent decades wanting to dance for a living and now, at the ripe-ish age of 44, it would seem, now is the time.

My message here is that we all have creative energy and for many of us, it’s our life’s work here on planet Earth to uncover, release and live that energy every day.

I haven’t achieved anything yet, my first women’s healing dance class is running on Saturday 22nd November at 8.00 in the morning (wish me luck).  And yet I feel proud and calm and certain that this time it will take off and fly and that I will be along for the ride with joy, passion and freedom.

In essence, feeling fearful about a new idea, project or business venture just means we care a lot about it and ourselves.  All that’s needed is baby steps.  Take that first step and see where it leads.  Don’t let fear stop you from trying because what I’ve discovered is the more we face our fears and move ahead anyway, the more daring we become.

Keep these three things in mind:

  • Our fears can also be our excitement
  • Our fears can be our ego/mind just trying to keep us safe
  • Fear is just another emotion that when acknowledged, blessed and felt, is then free to morph into another expression of who we are.

Our family holiday in Spain took me right out of my comfort zone and everything turned out great. What I took from that experience was that’s it’s safe to take risks and why not simply trust that it will all be okay?

Small success leads to bigger success

Oh and by the way, that friend of mine in her seventies, well she’s booked her place to dance with me on the 22nd.  Cool huh?

For some personal support and guidance with facing your fears make an appointment with me .  We can connect over the phone or on Skype at a time that suits you.

Blessings, Tricia

What We Choose – And Why

Posted in Live From Intuition, and Self-Care and Self-Healing

Hot crossed buns don’t really agree with my tummy.  For the first time this Easter I thought I’d managed to steer clear of those yeasty, fruity, doughy treats until wandering through town on Saturday morning, seeing others walk by with their half-dozen buns, I could no longer resist.

Nobody else in the family enjoys them, I know they’re not good for me, it’s just that hot crossed buns are a fondly remembered part of my childhood Easters. Toasted or warmed in the oven and slathered with butter.  It’s that cinnamon and nutmeg aroma as much as anything. Aren’t the scents sometimes the most evocative aspects of any deeply held pleasant memory?

Anyway I ate a couple, felt the not-so-nice effects later on and threw the rest in the bin.  So, this post isn’t actually about sticky buns. What I’m wanting to share this week is the complexity of choice in this human experience.

I’ve been re-reading Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth and enjoying being reminded about presence, awareness and being fully conscious in daily life. Tolle’s writing is so helpful in its simplicity and clarity of message.

Simplicity is beauty
Simplicity is beauty

What I’ve noticed so much over the years of more fully absorbing the teachings of Tolle, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss and many others is that the more present I am, the better the choices I make for myself. In Tolle’s words:

“There are three words that convey the secret of the art of living, the secret of all success and happiness: One With Life. Being one with life is being one with Now…Life is the dancer, and you are the dance”

Sounds simple huh? It is provided we are prepared to cultivate and then practice being in complete acceptance of every moment, in every moment.  Another way of putting it is; saying a great big YES to life no matter what occurs.

The more aware or if you like ‘awake’ we are, the more aligned our choices are with what Life desires for us and then when the proverbial does hit the fan, as it still does even in the lives of the most spiritually advanced souls, we can move that much more swiftly from distress, shock, grief, anger or victim-hood into acceptance and grace-filled forgiveness.

When we live from a foundation of peace with all, and the understanding that our inner wisdom is there to guide us in every moment to our best physical, emotional and mental function, life gets a whole lot simpler and much more enjoyable.

Coming back to choice now, what exactly is it that leads us to repeatedly make poor choices for our health, finances, relationships, sanity and general sense of well-being?  I think it’s many things and one thing.  The many things first:

  • Low self-worth
  • Self-sabotage related to fear of failure or success
  • Unconscious, inherited behaviours learnt in childhood
  • Using the mind to rationalise the choice or blame others for it, thereby minimising or explaining away its ill-effects
  • Choosing to fill life with distractions, complaints, criticism and excuses rather than choosing to be responsible for one’s own happiness.
  • Etc, etc…

Now the one thing:

Not being fully present and embodied in the physicality, truth and divine potential of the human experience.

My hot crossed bun episode is just one tiny example of how I’m still on my learner’s permit with this stuff. Ah well, here’s to the journey ahead.

Want to share it with me? Learning’s easier in a group 🙂
