You Are Not What’s Happened to You

Posted in Live From Intuition, Live Your Passions, and Trust The Universe

In a couple of sessions with my beautiful clients this week I’ve found myself talking about the big versus the small view of our lives, well perhaps more our existence than our ‘lives’.

You know, the idea we are on this planet, a spiritual being having a physical experience for this finite time period and then, well then, who knows but I’ve got a feeling we continue to exist as spiritual beings beyond and indeed did prior to this lifetime we are currently in.

So if that’s true and hey, it’s just my belief, you are very welcome to register a skeptical facial expression right now…

Anyway, so I feel this is true and yet this life I’m having right now does feel very important, very absorbing and you know, I really identify with me as a person in this lifetime and all that I have experienced, not to mention all my dreams for the future.  So how do I put that all into perspective with regard to my belief that I am an eternal being not who but that will exist beyond this human life?

What I’m talking about here is living life from the viewpoint (the very liberating viewpoint I think), that what we know about the story of our time here in this current life is not the full story or the whole picture and that we have a bigger story, a more expansive existence that goes on beyond the comprehension of our limited human minds.

Now I’m not suggesting for a moment that our human lives here and now are not important or not to be revered and valued immensely, no, not at all.  We are certainly here to experience all that our souls very carefully set out to explore, discover, sense, feel, enjoy and endure when we made the choice to come and have this life.

What I’m hoping to elucidate (cool word), is that although we must take these lives of ours seriously enough that we engage, learn, relate, embrace, evolve and create as a direct result of all that we experience, perhaps from time to time, we could also take an imaginary step back from what we are feeling, suffering with, recovering from, catastrophising and even celebrating and realise…

This is not all there is to me, this is only my small story, I’m bigger and the infinite universe that is my true home is far bigger than this life event.

Phew, profound huh?

Wait, there’s more…

The things that have happened to me in this life have nothing at all to do with my inherent goodness as a divine soul, nor how I am loved beyond the stars and back again by the love energy that created All.

When we have the capacity to take this mental step back and view our lives from a more objective, less personal standpoint we are more likely to have the courage to chase our dreams, speak up for what we believe in and make choices that well, put simply, make us happy.  We are less likely to live in automatic pilot, put up with abuse from others or go on punishing ourselves with regret and guilt over past actions.

It’s all been happening for you, you can see that more easily when you take the BIG picture perspective. You’ve gained far more than what you may feel you’ve lost.  And ultimately, what it all boils down to is this:

You are loved

You are loved

You are love

That’s all <3

Motherhood – How to Care Less

Posted in Heal Relationships, and Self-Care and Self-Healing

Today I visited my son’s new school (he’s starting high school next year), for the first time.  As I picked out his new T.shirts and shorts in the uniform shop I thought, with a little tear in my eye; “My little boy’s moving on, stepping into a new stage of life”.

It’s natural isn’t it for a mother to grieve, just a little, the passing of her children’s childhoods? Just how much we grieve I think depends on how much we’ve retained or re-created, as it was in my case, our own sense of self amid the mothering role.IMG_9324

Because, let’s face it, being a mother, much like being a daughter, wife, sister, friend, or aunt is a role you fulfill as part of your life.  It is not you with a capital Y.  You are a mother yes, but you are first and foremost a person, yes, an individual human being who existed before her little bundles of joy and believe it or not, will continue to sparkle and dazzle the universe with her brilliance long after the said bundles have flown the nest.

We feel happy/sad when we wean them, when they begin school, lose their first tooth, experience their first major disappointment and then recover, miss out on a party invite or don’t get much of a game when playing their first team sport.  Honestly, raising children can be exhausting and heart-breaking. It’s not for the faint-hearted.

I for one, took the ‘jump in feet-first, total immersion‘ approach to motherhood.  For five years that’s who and what I was, their mother.  Other roles like wife (my poor husband), daughter and sister took a definite back seat. When I came wandering, stumbling out of that period it felt like I’d returned from a long absence from my own life.  I felt a bit like a time-traveller cast randomly into a foreign land at an unknown point in time.  Well perhaps that’s a little dramatic, but not awfully so.

I was ‘mummy’ and that’s all I really identified with.

I’d lost who I used to be, and to be honest that wasn’t a bad thing because I hadn’t overly enjoyed being her.  I just wasn’t sure who, apart from ‘mummy’, I was now. I wasn’t even the qualified psychologist I’d embodied just three years prior.  Sure, I knew I had been her and could role-play that job again, it just didn’t feel like ‘me’ anymore.

So not being able to figure it out in my mind, I eventually followed my heart into some short courses in writing, art and natural therapies to flush out the real ‘me’.  I knew she had to be in there somewhere…

And it worked. It’s taken many years, around seven in fact, but I now understand who I am at a deeper level and have work and other activities in my daily life that support and express that real me.

So when I witness the growing up and growing away-ness in my children, I don’t feel too sad because I have this rich and varied life that’s quite separate from them.  I am ‘me’ independent of the mother role and it feels good.

To care is beautiful, to care too much is painful and stifling for those we love.  Love yourself a little more and you’ll find you care just the right amount for everyone else with ease.

Feel The Fear but Don’t Let it Run Your Life

Posted in Live From Intuition, and Live Your Passions

Two whole years ago I launched a dance class for women in a community hall in my town.  I’d only been living here for six months when I began this bold new venture and to be completely blunt, it failed.

Sure, a few women turned up, I had some fun (in only slightly greater measure than the terror), and I met the most lovely and inspiring 73 year old woman who became a friend and meditation buddy.

I wrote this post: The Healing Power of Dance as I began this short but sweet journey in 2012

These feet just wanna dance!
These feet just wanna dance!

So, here I am again, I’ve booked the space, created a flyer and started publicising it in facebook.  In just under two weeks I’ll be leading a healing dance class for women in my little country town.

This time I have a much bigger network of contacts to invite, I am more in tune with my inner guidance and open to receiving spontaneous inspiration moment by moment AND I’m still scared.

The fear is with me every time I think about it, when I ponder the music selection and when I tell anyone about it.

And….I’m doing it anyway.  I’ve spent decades wanting to dance for a living and now, at the ripe-ish age of 44, it would seem, now is the time.

My message here is that we all have creative energy and for many of us, it’s our life’s work here on planet Earth to uncover, release and live that energy every day.

I haven’t achieved anything yet, my first women’s healing dance class is running on Saturday 22nd November at 8.00 in the morning (wish me luck).  And yet I feel proud and calm and certain that this time it will take off and fly and that I will be along for the ride with joy, passion and freedom.

In essence, feeling fearful about a new idea, project or business venture just means we care a lot about it and ourselves.  All that’s needed is baby steps.  Take that first step and see where it leads.  Don’t let fear stop you from trying because what I’ve discovered is the more we face our fears and move ahead anyway, the more daring we become.

Keep these three things in mind:

  • Our fears can also be our excitement
  • Our fears can be our ego/mind just trying to keep us safe
  • Fear is just another emotion that when acknowledged, blessed and felt, is then free to morph into another expression of who we are.

Our family holiday in Spain took me right out of my comfort zone and everything turned out great. What I took from that experience was that’s it’s safe to take risks and why not simply trust that it will all be okay?

Small success leads to bigger success

Oh and by the way, that friend of mine in her seventies, well she’s booked her place to dance with me on the 22nd.  Cool huh?

For some personal support and guidance with facing your fears make an appointment with me .  We can connect over the phone or on Skype at a time that suits you.

Blessings, Tricia

Five Spiritual Secrets for a Better Life

Posted in Live From Intuition

Not so long ago I crossed the bridge from “Mainstream, Mind-focused Logical Land” and entered “Intuitive, Spirit-guided Magic-can-happen Land”.  And guess what, my life is sooo much better.

My mission now is to lead as many willing adventurers as I can across the bridge to join me here in the land of infinite possibility, freedom and fun.

IMG_7526

So this week I’m debunking some myths about embracing this way of life by sharing my top five spiritual secrets to a better life.  Here goes…
  1. You don’t need to meditate or pray in order to connect with Spirit/the Universe – it certainly helps me when I do, but as long as you spend time alone in nature, playing or listening to music (maybe not death metal), journaling or creating anything artistic, you are putting yourself in the zone to receive inspiration, healing and support.
  2. Forget fad diets, forcing yourself to drink that green smoothie you only sort of like and feeling bad that you aren’t drinking enough water – Place your trust and awareness in your wise, clever body and listen to what it wants each day. We all need different foods and varying amounts of fluids. There’s no right or wrong when you rely on your intuitive self to guide your choices.  As soon as you begin going with what you feel like, your body will course correct and find its own way to a healthy weight.
  3. Add healing power to everything you consume by simply being present and aware  – The tradition of saying grace or blessing our food before a meal goes back millennia because it actually activates the ever-present healing energy in our food and water. So just be mindful and appreciate whatever it is you’re receiving and your food will be your elixir.
  4. You are not responsible for anyone’s happiness but your own – This is especially relevant for us women.  No, dear feminine ones, you are NOT responsible for your children’s or partner’s happiness.  Save yourself first.  In other words, focus on creating your own happiness and the wonderful souls around you will feel freer to pursue their own bliss in turn.  Focus only on others and I assure you, nobody wins.
  5. Your creative and sexual expression are one and the same energy – if one is blocked or suppressed, your enjoyment of the other will be diminished. If you have hang-ups or fears around your sensuality, sexuality, creativity, or artistic talents, making progress in one of these realms can trigger instant healing in the others. So paint, make love, dance, sing, draw, sew, cook, get or give a massage, do yoga, write or sculpt yourself ALIVE!

For some extra help or further explanation of any of these concepts contact me for a personal consultation in-person, over the phone or on Skype. Go to Book A Session With Tricia in my website for more details.

Be your intuitive and natural self and create a life more ‘you’. <3

Tune Into Your Inner Guidance – Three Tips

Posted in Live From Intuition

Not so many years back I was one of those regular sort of people who thought life was all about working hard, earning rewards by struggling and striving and that it was my mind that would carry me over that far-distant finish line of success.

So much has changed.

Here’s a quick summary spanning twelve years:

  • Motherhood
  • Career confusion
  • Emotional overwhelm
  • Loss of self
  • Marriage strain
  • The discoveries of art, meditation, kinesiology, yoga, my heart and my intuitive gifts…..

I now live my life from my inner guidance.  My mind plays a pretty important role too but it comes a very comfortable second place to my heart.

Being in nature helps me connect with my inner guidance
Being in nature helps me connect with my inner guidance

You see, the mind actually doesn’t want to be in control, it’s quite happy to play second fiddle.

It’s just that we’re raised in these western cultures of ours to identify with what we know; our academic and work achievements and book learning rather than what we feel.

You know, in your gut, your instincts, your heart.

So what I understand now is that although when my mind was playing at being in the driver’s seat, I made some decisions that weren’t so great, it wasn’t all bad, because there were still moments when gut feeling took over and I listened to that quiet inner voice.  It’s just that I mostly didn’t know that’s what I’d done and I gave my mind the power of thinking it was all knowing and all clever.

Definitely not so.

Since learning to follow my inner guidance and live more from my heart than my mind, my whole life has changed.  I won’t go into it all here, you can read more here.  I’ll just say I feel happy being me and I’m surrounded by more people than ever before who ‘get’ me, love me and who I love back. Yay!

So here’s how you make a start with this inner guidance caper:

Three Tips for Tuning Into Your Inner Guidance

  1. Make space for your inner voice to speak to you – Your inner guidance comes mostly via life happening quite organically around you everyday. And when you make time each day to sit in meditation, you increase your chances of being available to receive the messages from within your heart, both in that moment of stillness and in the wonderful synchronicities and coincidences life presents.
  2. Ask for help Play with the idea that you can ask for guidance on just about anything.  From everyday things like what to eat for breakfast, what colour shirt to buy and whether to make a phone call to someone in particular, to the big ticket items like your life purpose, career direction and relationship quandaries. So in those still moments, ask within and then listen and feel into your heart to start receiving the guidance you seek.
  3. Pay attention to what you see, hear and sense in every moment  Much of what we experience in daily life is there for us to absorb as guidance, feedback and learning.  I’m not saying every situation you find yourself in is all about you and nobody else, I’m just suggesting to not discount that overheard conversation that draws your attention or that chance meeting with a friend from years back as happenings of no significance.  When we allow our heart to guide us into the feelings and deeper messages in each moment, we attract our desires much faster and gentler.

Enough said for now.  If you would like some personal help with tuning into your inner guidance from me, take a look HERE and contact me for your FREE fifteen minute phone session.

Seven Tips For Creating An Abundance Mindset

Posted in Create Abundance

Whatever way you look at it, abundance is a word that has become almost as baggage-laden as the words love, money and God.

Hmmm, I wonder. Are all these words somehow connected?

Because the truth is, we are all experiencing great abundance in our lives right this very minute.

For some it’s an abundance of health, wealth, fun, love, freedom and happiness.  For others it’s an abundance of sorrow, pain, lack, conflict and misery.  And then there’s the rest of us who hang around somewhere in the middle of the extremes and witness glimpses of all these qualities from day to day.

All that we experience is intimately connected with what we expect, what feels ‘normal’ and what we’ve been taught to believe about abundance, prosperity and plentiful supply.

So is it really as simple as those law of attraction proponents say?  Can we simply choose a better abundance experience and wish away the unpleasant bits?

In my experience, yes, well kind of.  For me it’s taken time and the shift has been incremental rather than overnight.

The important thing to remember here is that it’s not about what you have. it’s about how you feel about what you have.
Flowing free like the sea
Flowing free like the sea

Those who have the most don’t necessarily feel the most abundant. And although abundance isn’t just about material wealth, it’s one of the more tangible and obvious ways we get to experience it.

When we create an abundance mindset we begin treating all that we have and experience, love, money, health, creativity, laughter, everything, as though it’s in plentiful supply.  There’s plenty to go around, give away, share with others and receive back again.  Once you feel abundant and have faith in the flow of all good things in and out of your life, you can’t help but enjoy life more.

Here’s some tips for daily life to create an abundance mindset
  1. Keep the sugar bowl and salt and pepper grinders full and take pleasure in a well-stocked pantry and fruit bowl
  2. Bless your power, water and telephone bills in gratitude for the services you receive and for the trust the service providers are extending to you by billing you after you’ve received the goods
  3. Regularly clear out and give away unwanted clothing and household items
  4. Spend some money now and again on things that add beauty to your home or make you feel prosperous such as candles, flowers, little ornaments, books, photo frames, cushions…
  5. Ease up on searching for bargains, sale items and specials in the supermarket (people with abundance mindsets know they’ll always have enough money to buy what they need).
  6. Choose a charitable cause that inspires you and give regularly. Giving from the heart expands our capacity for love and if money is the same as love then…:)
  7. Do something that’s fun, nurturing or pleasurable for yourself every day. This cultivates self-love and reminds us we are all we need

When you play in the awareness of abundance in all things, little by little your experience of abundance in all life areas will expand and feelings of lack will fade into distant memory.

Create The Vision, Take Action, Repeat…

Posted in Create Abundance, Live Your Passions, and Trust The Universe

Here’s where I share some really useful information about manifesting your desired outcomes.

It seems to me there’s this complicated and intricate dance happening all around us every day.  Things happens that seems to be out of our control and to have nothing whatsoever to do with us. We react to annoying circumstances, accidents, illness and other people being awful as if to say;

“Hey!  That’s not fair! I was just minding my own business, I don’t deserve this.”

What I’m here to say is, pay more attention and realise that although we’re not supposed to take any of this’ life on planet Earth’ stuff personally, most of what you observe in your life has significance and meaning for you right now.

Every moment we devote attention to by expressing our reaction, opinion or emotions has a little message for us.  What we label as good, bad, happy or sad, the universe just sees as energy.

One step at a time
One step at a time

What we learn from these moments about who we really are and what we are unconsciously creating in our lives is what helps us move forward and become conscious creators of our reality.  And again, this isn’t just your personal journey I’m talking about.

When you shift and raise your vibration, everyone benefits.

You, as part of the whole are important and yes, vital to the overall flow of humanity’s evolution.

Sorry if that came as a shock.

So how do you create what you really want when you’ve got a long and glorious history of struggling to live what you thought was a ‘normal’ and ‘productive’ life?

It all starts with having a vision and then taking a step forward in your life that aligns you with the vision.  So before you quit your job or leave your partner, or both, work out what you would love to be doing every day of your life.  Our dream work is usually something we would do for free, something  we feel passionate about and makes our heart sing.

And don’t worry if right now you don’t know, because sometimes not having a clue what this might be is more perfect than having a narrowly defined goal.  You see, I began this process myself eight years ago and I’m still working out what it is I really truly want to do.  Every day I get a little closer and I’ve had an amazing time along the way.

When you’re not sure and you simply try something you’ve always wondered about, universe gets to gently guide you to what’s perfect for where you’re at right now.

When I went and studied kinesiology, I had no idea if I could do it, would like it or could create a practice in this field.  All I knew was I’d received a lot of benefit from being a recipient of kinesiology and it was a therapy I was very interested in learning more about. This was my vision and the action I took was to attend my first weekend training class. My work with individuals has evolved immensely since that first class but I know it was my right first step.

So the big CLUE here is, pay attention to what you see, hear, feel, sense, and react to in your life right now.  When you notice a little internal buzz of excitement at something before your eyes or ears, tune into your inner wisdom and ask, “Is this for me?”

When we act from that uplifting sense of enthusiasm, curiosity, interest or wonder, we know we’re on the right track.

For some personal help with clarifying what you’d really love to be doing in your life, take a look at my Book a Session with Tricia page and contact me for a chat.

When You Dream You Create Reality

Posted in Live Your Passions, and Trust The Universe

Do you have a dream?

I’ve got a stack of them and as one dream comes to fruition, another one emerges to take it’s place.  This is what I call, living in flow with all that life desires for you.

One of my dreams is to one day build my own (our own)  home by the beach, I’m not sure when this one will happen, but based on how my life’s expanded and flowed for the past few years, I reckon it might happen sooner rather than later.

In the meantime I’m happy with where I’m at and making the most of my current home.  I can let that dream go for now and trust that it will be delivered in divine timing.

“How does she get to be so relaxed and confident?” I hear you ask.

Well, I’m not all the time, nowhere near.  It’s just that since I learned how to follow my inner guidance a few years back, I’m finding it easier and easier to imagine my dream life, write it down, feel it, see it in my mind’s eye and then let it go with a request to the universe:

“…This, or something EVEN BETTER please”

What I’m also hearing some of you say is: “Dreams? I don’t have time for dreams, I wouldn’t even know where to start.

That’s how I felt before I began this journey and I understand how you feel.  Life can feel overwhelming, especially if you are over-committed to caring for children, running your career, caring for an elderly family member or if you’re stuck in the emotional quagmire of having stress, worry, resentment, responsibility or boredom as your daily emotional default.

You just need to make space to imagine and dream… like you did when you were a child.  It’s okay to fantasise and make-believe.  When we have a dream and visit it often in our imagination in a joyful and expectant way, we’re sending an order out to the universe saying:

“Hello universe, here’s what I like, this is what makes my heart sing and feels in resonance with my soul”

And universe, or as I sometimes like to call it, life, responds by edging us ever so slightly closer to that imagined reality.  Of course the speed is actually up to us.  If we believe it can happen overnight and feel rapid change is something we and our families can handle then that can be what occurs.

The main point here is, you won’t get if you don’t ask.

The other point is that although life actually does want us to be happy, we over-ride the natural flow of this when we think we are stuck in doubt, fear and confusion about what we really want.

I realise it can be hard to break those patterns of feeling over-burdened and lacking in inspiration, courage and optimism.  It’s a process worth beginning though, as we all have the potential within us to break free of those old patterns and begin to really enjoy life.

Commit…And Watch The Benefits Flow

Posted in Live Your Passions, and Self-Care and Self-Healing

Are you ready to feel special, precious and loved?

Well, read on…

We all reach moments in our lives when we, sometimes quite inexplicably are ready to commit.

Commit to an exercise regime,a spiritual practice, a relationship or a perhaps a new way of thinking.

Sometimes the level of commitment required to deliver real positive results has been a long time coming and we spend years dancing around taking that final plunge.

So what’s holding you back?  Why are you resisting doing precisely what you know will bring you health, peace, focus, joy and success?

What I feel this is usually about is not feeling deserving.  If you truly and completely loved and valued yourself, would you have any trouble at all in making choices and commitments that you know serve your highest good?

No.  Very simply, no.

So first things first.  I’ll tell it to you straight:

You are the most valuable, sacred, special being on this planet.  You deserve all that is good, enjoyable and fulfilling in your life.  You represent the whole.  When each of us feel alive, joyful, healthy and happy, it lifts the energy of the entire planet.

Does that have you convinced? If not, read that last bit with your child, best friend, partner or pet in mind.  Now do you believe it?

So this is the first piece; feeling we deserve our joy.

Then we need to feel resonance with whatever it is we would like to commit to.  If all your friends do yoga but you hate it, please don’t make that your goal.  Make sure that whatever health regime, creative activity, spiritual path, study focus or work role you pursue as a commitment to yourself is something that makes your heart sing.

Life is too short and valuable to waste it following someone else’s path or living in fear of failing to achieve your own dreams.

My suggestions is to get the basics sorted out first.  That means your physical well-being.  First, love your body for where it’s at right now, treat it with tenderness, care and respect for all that it’s been for you over the years.  Cultivate a feeling of connection and reverence for the innate wisdom of your physical self and listen to what it wants.

Some of us are well suited to vigorous, strong forms of exercise and some, not so much.  Only you know, through feeling into your body and recalling from past experience what has felt good and enjoyable and what has felt either too easy or too hard, what your body needs.

The commitment piece comes a lot more easily when we love what we’re doing.  And yet it can still take some firm guidance from within.  I’m writing this knowing full well I still have lapses in my yoga and meditation practice.  I really truly want to do two yoga classes each week and yet it rarely happens.  Still, one is a good beginning, I can love myself for that.

The journey continues >3

Simple Blessings and Hidden Blessings

Posted in Trust The Universe

I enjoy collecting sticks from the bush surrounding our home to break up for kindling in our fire.  The sight of a bucket full of dry, clean kindling makes my heart sing.  It makes me feel provided for, organised and self-sufficient.

IMG_8952

Our slow combustion wood heater is our only source of heating for our home and we love it.  Our winter days centre around starting and maintaining the fire, making sure we have dry wood to burn and checking on it hourly.

Simplicity

Warmth

Working with the natural elements

Freedom from electricity and gas

We have a lovely old fellow (in his eighties) who chops wood for a hobby at one of our local wood collection areas and takes great pleasure in furnishing us with stacks and stacks of his beautiful chopped up jarrah from fallen trees.  We appreciate receiving the fruits of his labour and he appreciates having grateful people to give it to.

It’s a match made in heaven, as the commercial suppliers of fire wood in our area charge hundreds of dollars per trailer-load.  We are blessed and we know it.

Last night at my women’s meditation circle we meditated on the hidden blessings in upsetting life events.

Given ample time to adjust and reflect after life has handed us a challenging experience, most of us are able to see that along with the stress, trauma, pain, fear and sadness, there are also benefits such as;

  • Closer connections with those around us in the giving and receiving of support
  • The opportunity to see our lives from a new perspective and make positive changes
  • The empowerment that arises simply from having to face a difficult problem or traumatic life happening

I’m speaking of our collective reactions to recent events such as the deaths of all aboard the Malaysian Airlines flight last week and the hundreds of people killed in recent weeks in the Gaza strip.

It feels to me from a ‘big picture’ spiritual perspective that as a global community we are being called upon to unite to create a peaceful planet where all can live and travel in safety and there is no such thing as ‘dangerous air-space’.  Now that more of us have been drawn in by personal and community connections to these tragedies, we can no longer turn away and imagine that the problems are happening ‘over there’ to people who are not like me.

They are just like you and I and it’s time we all set some fresh intentions for the human species.  Are we not all citizens of this planet? Are we not all children of this universe?

Send only love and peace but do it with heart-filled conviction and fury. <3
