When we utter a blessing for ourselves and others it holds great power and can influence our lives in magical ways.
At every new moon we are given extra support and encouragement from the universe to start again, set some fresh goals and create our very own new beginning.
This morning I woke up, sat up on my bed and meditated and then grabbed my journal and wrote out a new moon blessing in honour of this new moon day.
Dear universe of love and benevolence
Bless my body and bring me bountiful health
Bless my loved ones and bring me harmonious relationships
Bless my home and make it safe, welcoming and beautiful
Bless my work and bring me fulfillment and prosperity
Bless my creative endeavours and help them flow with ease and grace
Bless my daily travels and pave the path I tread with peaceful intentions
Bless all beings and help them see their divinity and perfection
May I be peaceful and joyful
May I be humble and filled with gratitude
May I be of service to others
May I emanate love in all I do
Bless us all dear universe at this new moon

If there was ever a perfect time to take a break and quiet things down in our lives, then this is it. We’re days away from our longest night here in the southern hemisphere.
Can you feel yourself wanting to slow down and hibernate this week? Many of us get colds and flu around this time of year and I don’t think it’s just to do with the colder weather. Our bodies crave rest and rejuvenation at this mid-point of the year and just like the animals do, we could benefit from flowing with what feels natural for each of us.
How often do we do that?
How easy is it to gracefully respond to what our body tells us and flow with what feels good and nurturing?
Not so easy is it. We’ve all been programmed to behave as though each day is identical to the next. Get up with the alarm clock, eat breakfast, go to work, do household chores, deliver and pick up children etc, etc.
In reality, we’re all subject to the ebb and flow of energy levels, physical and emotional urges and bodily needs that come with all the natural cycles of life. Here’s just a few:
Then there’s also the wider cosmic cycles of planetary orbits, comet movement and so much astronomical complexity it blows my tiny mind.
We’re all influenced in small and also significant ways by all of this and it’s no wonder to me that when the mind and emotions give us the signal to slow down and rest and we don’t listen, that the body eventually caves in and succumbs to a virus of some sort. Not that being sick is a failure, it’s just a nice clear sign that we need to stop.
This week I recorded a gentle little meditation to celebrate the solstice and to honour the need for us all to rest and fully relax now and again. Grab a blanket, settle into a comfy chair and have a listen….

Many of you think you can’t meditate don’t you? Tried it…too hard…not worth the trouble, right?
That monkey mind just won’t shut up. It’s a constant stream of unpleasant thoughts and feelings, memories and worries amid the shopping lists, reminder to self to phone Mum, and that awful realization you forgot a friend’s birthday last week.
I know, I feel your pain because this happens to me when I meditate too. Yes, I’ve been a daily (well almost), meditator for oh about nine years now and I too get distracted by my mind.
So do you know what I did to help myself become better at meditating? I started a women’s meditation circle and began channeling guided meditations for the group within a few months. Fun huh?
That was two years ago and the good news is that running a weekly session with other people has certainly improved the quality of my daily meditations and I love doing it. The not so good new though is some days I still don’t find it easy to settle the body and calm the mind and some (very occasional) days, I don’t make the time to do it at all.
Hey, I’m only human and life has a funny habit of shifting and changing beneath our feet, right?
So, short article today because I want you to take fifteen minutes for yourself right now and listen to this easy and simplified guided meditation I recorded today.
Allow me to gently guide you within your heart space and feel those beautiful glimpses, those soft little moments of stillness and peace. I guarantee you’ll feel better for doing it.
