How to be a better energy custodian

Are you a willing custodian of the energetic frequencies of your home, workplace and body?

This is how I’m the custodian of my home’s energy… Bergamot is wafting from the diffuser, the candle in the entrance is lit, the living room is tidy and there’s a freshly cut orange-becoming-apricot rosebud in a vase on the sideboard. The windows are open just enough to feel a soft breeze and to hear the sporadic calls of many birds…

There is a feeling of peace and softness.

We are also the custodians of our physical and energetic bodies – if the two could actually be separated. In truth, they’re really one body. But first, let’s look at the places we inhabit.

A room people love being in

In every moment of every day, no matter where we work, live or recreate, we have the power to make small, or sometimes significant differences to how these places feel.

Music, silence, fresh air, essential oils, chimes, tinkling water in a fountain or birdsong. Sunlight, artworks, plants, flowers, candles, colour and clear surfaces. The right combinations of these types of elements can make a room feel uplifting to be in. When we get it wrong, the result will be different for each person but the majority of us respond positively to a well decorated and energetically clear space: we feel welcomed, relaxed and happy to be there. It feels like a safe and nurturing sanctuary.

Intention is the key

When we enter a home, shop or office where someone has lovingly thought about the energy of the place, it feels different. As soon as we create the intention that we would like a room to feel light, airy and calm, the process begins. We become aware of what must change, what might be moved, removed or added. A potted plant here, a table and lamp over there or perhaps more space, so we’ll remove a chair. Did I just rhyme? Anyway, it’s not about the latest design trends, it’s about how it feels.

We might do a daily cleansing of the room. Not cleaning, cleaning sucks, energy cleansing is much nicer.

A mist of space clearing spray, the burning of sage or incense, ringing around the room with a singing bowl or bell, opening doors and windows to let the air flow through or placing crystals around the space. It all has an impact and we can feel it when we pause and check-in consciously. But how about our own individual soul dwelling, our body?

Being the custodian of our body

The body I’m talking about here isn’t so much the physical one, it’s the energetic one. Our energy field is what we first greet the world with and it has the biggest impact on how we feel and how others feel in our presence.

When it comes to caring for our energy body, it all begins in the mind. What is the general tone of your thoughts? Are you creating a feeling of negativity in your energy field due to your troubling thought patterns? It’s easy to acknowledge this but quite difficult to change.

We become accustomed to negative thoughts because it’s often what we were trained to highlight as children. We absorbed ideas like, “not good enough” or “you got it wrong”. And then in some families, we didn’t hear any clear messages, be they good or bad, so we made our own minds up about how worthy we were of love and good experiences.

As adults, we get to change the soundtrack to suit our energetic desires. I want to feel peace in my heart and love for myself, so over the past fifteen years or so, I’ve trained myself to think thoughts that support those feelings. No more berating myself for minor mistakes, no more looking in the mirror and hating on what I see, no more silent put-downs, no more negative assumptions about my abilities.

We must create a similarly positive outlook about other people and life itself. We can begin with asserting that we exist in a benevolent universe and that all is working in our favour. But actually, just feeling good about ourselves is the one essential key for feeling good about life and creating the high vibrational frequency that we can enjoy and that others can benefit from being around.

Here’s an affirmation from Louise L. Hay that may help:

“In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole and complete. It is safe for me to enlarge my viewpoint of life. I am far more than my personality – past, present, or future. I now recognise the magnificence of my being. I am willing to learn to love myself.”

So that’s the mental piece and to me, it’s the main focus. However, we can also treat ourselves to some energetic cleansing such as taking a walk in nature or a swim in the ocean, having an energy healing session, meditating, improving our nutrition, breathing deeply, dancing, doing yoga, listening to music or simply by drinking more water. These therapeutic measures are all no-brainers to me these days but I realise they all take awareness and time.

It Doesn’t Matter What You Eat

We all seem to be obsessed with food, cooking, and diet these days and I’m not convinced it’s making any of us healthier or happier.

We spend so much mental energy on what to eat and buy and then how to cook it.  For some people this food fascination is almost a full-time job and indeed a whole industry has sprung up around it.  People now become national celebrities because they can cook well. What?

Does it stress you out?  Do you wonder if the ingredients you have in your green smoothie really are the optimal blend of cancer-fighting, metabolism-boosting and hip-slimming goodness, or is someone else’s recipe better?

I’ll declare my position right now…I have never had a green smoothie in my life.  Why?  Well I just don’t think that’s what my body needs and since my intuitive abilities with regard to my own health are pretty strong, I’m following what my gut says.  It says no.

So let me flesh out my argument a little more:

  • Food fads come and go
  • Research proving certain foods are good or bad is often later proven to be false
  • We’re all different with regard to our dietary needs depending on body size, age, activity level, gender, digestive function and hormonal make-up.
  • We all need less food than we think we do and our needs change with the seasons
  • Our bodies are always trying to tell us what we need, we’ve just stopped listening to them
  • What we focus on expands, so if we make food the central focus in our lives, chances are, we’ll waste a lot of time choosing, cooking and eating our meals when all we really needed was some wholemeal toast with peanut butter.
  • When we over-emphasise the importance of food we eat more and we get less done in the other, perhaps more creative, fulfilling and life-enhancing realms of our lives.

That all sounds convincing right?

But what I really wanted to convey here relates directly to the title, “It doesn’t MATTER what you eat”.  Quantum scientists have known for years now that there is actually very little matter (solid stuff) in the universe, when examined at the quantum level, there is far, far more space in everything than there is matter.

Stay with me here because what I’m about to tell you is true and may have the power to change not only how and what you eat but how you feel about lots of other things in your life.

Everything is ENERGY

What you feel and think about what you eat has an overwhelming influence on how your body treats it.  If you think what you are eating is bad for you your body will fail to perceive and absorb the nutrients in that food. Similarly, if you hate your body and feel that every mouthful you swallow is making you fat, your body will play along.

Did you know there are brain cells in your stomach and intestinal tract?

So hey, I don’t want to bore you with all the science (mainly cause I don’t know it all), but what I do know from my intuition and wisdom channeled from Source is that we are constantly creating our experience of life via our thoughts and feelings. Not all of it sure, but most of the day to day stuff.

Put simply, when we love the body and listen to our desire for this or that, it doesn’t take too long before we begin reaching for a carrot to snack on rather than a packet of crisps, or we stop at one or two cookies instead of eating five.  Our body is incredibly wise and straightforward when we honour it properly.

So here’s my tip for the week: Enjoy what you eat, eat what you enjoy and be present with every bite.  Slow down and appreciate your meal with awareness and your body will tell you when it’s satisfied.

I Woke Up (A Bit More) – How I Did It

The energies of transformation I’ve written about in recent posts have been turned up a notch or two the past couple of weeks. The Aries energy of right now combined with a Cardinal Grand Cross (for you astrology experts), and some eclipses coming next week and later this month, make for a heady cocktail of aha!, oh no! and ah yes! moments galore.

I’ve had the sensation in the last few days of coming out of a fog, seeing the exceptional in life and especially in nature all around me.

All of a sudden I marvel at every bird, kangaroo, tree, flower and leaf.  Formerly I would devote less attention to the birds I see in great numbers such as the willy wagtails, New Holland honey-eaters, magpies, and kookaburras and only be stopped in my tracks by the less common scarlet robins, splendid fairy wrens and the stunning golden whistler.

Nowadays I’m finding myself filled with joy and wonder at just about everything and it feels nice.  A weight has been lifted and I’m finding myself feeling aghast at how little I appreciated my amazing existence up until now.

Okay, so what’s happened.  Some simple things.  I’ve been setting an alarm for the first time in years and getting up early to walk, meditate and journal.  I’ve been listening to my intuition and using essential oils in my burner, lighting an inscense stick now and then and utilising my flower essence stash with greater joy and appreciation than ever.

I’ve consciously slowed down again, more, because what I thought was slowing down a year ago was barely breaking a fast clip. And it’s all divinely right timing, I’m ready for this new phase.  Cause if I wasn’t ready I wouldn’t be doing it.

To put it in a nutshell, I’ve created more time for quiet contemplation, creative expression and following my heart.

What I’m still getting used to is the novelty of these stronger, more passionate feelings of connection and appreciation.  There’s something slightly scary in loving more because perhaps there’s a tiny part of me that believes the more you love, the greater the potential for pain and loss.  Does that make sense?

On the human level I think it makes infinite sense because our first and most basic urge is to keep ourselves safe from harm. Moving into the higher understanding that we are eternally safe because we are divine beings of light that will endure any earth-bound experience, even death makes it seem a little silly, but therein lies the complexity of our human being-ness.

Just about all of us unconsciously hold back from feeling all we can feel out of fear of making ourselves vulnerable.  I’m an expert at this, remember in life, with regard to comparing yourself with others or standing in judgment of another, “it takes one to know one”.  This is true in every instance.

So finding myself drawn into new, more loving friendships and stronger connections to the people already in my life who give more and feel more than me is a natural step on this new path.  We surround ourselves with those whom we both admire and can see a little of ourselves in.  This is another way I’m letting my heart rather than my head guide me into greater joy, freedom and peace.
