Seven Steps to Facing Fear and Getting on Your Path

Posted in Live Your Passions

We all let fear hold us back from time to time.

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it right?

It’s true though.

The roles we’re here to fulfill are usually hard won.  And hey, if you’ve always found life easy (that includes nobody I know), then you’re probably bored with where you’re at and not on your true path. Yes?

Your true path is a job or creative vocation that challenges you, pushes you right to the edge of your comfort and then over it and makes you feel excited and energised when you imagine doing it.

So, do we play it safe and avoid the bigger game, or do we risk it all for love? You know. love for yourself and the entire planet – no big deal.

And let me tell you, this is quite a tough decision – because from what I’ve experienced and helped many clients with – life doesn’t really allow us to sit in fear as the lesser of two evils.

Oh no, if you’re thinking you can just keep it low key – cower to the fears and let them call the shots – then I’m sorry, I don’t think you’ll find it that simple.

Oh and by the way – If you’re over 40 and still not on your path, then pay close attention…

                    Fly free like a bird

Why?

Well because life will eventually find other ways to get you moving….

You may be criticised by family, rejected and abandoned by your friends or partner, bullied by workmates or made redundant from your job.

You may also feel untold discomfort in the form of envy, dissatisfaction, frustration, compulsive complaining, judgement of others and self-criticism.

Not to mention the de-railing of your health and peace of mind by the behaviours you adopted to avoid getting on your path such as addictions to alcohol, other drugs, food, shopping, television, social media…the list goes on.

Phew!  It all sounds exhausting right?

Well yes, because you’re not here to play it small and deny your gifts.

Once you get moving in the direction of your gifts and passions though, that’s where the magic happens and things slowly begin to fall into place. You get a sparkle back in your eye and a spring in your step.

Although I’m sorry to say, the nudges and prods won’t necessarily end there.  Once you begin the work of getting on your path, you’ll most likely experience a whole lot of resistance emerge from within you and sometimes from outside of you.

Don’t worry though, this is just your ego trying to protect you from changing too fast.  The ego believes we need to stay the same in order to stay safe.

Where I see many clients delay their progress is right here, when the first round of resistance shows up.  It’s very understandable.  Some very intense emotions can come to the surface and a big steaming pile of FEAR is at the front of the assault.

Sometimes we need a few run ups before we sail over the ditch between us and our brighter future. That’s okay, there’s no hurry.

Here’s what I suggest:

  1. Start something – read a book, do a short course, talk about your dreams and aspirations with someone you trust. Just make a small start.
  2. Notice the feelings as they emerge and allow yourself to feel them. Once felt, they naturally dissipate.
  3. Tell yourself it’s natural to experience anxiety or dread, or heart-stopping fear when you’re stretching out of your comfort zone.
  4. Find your tribe of people who love the stuff that you love and who speak your language, seek out local groups, Facebook groups, workshops and classes.
  5. Allow yourself to stumble, trip or completely fall. Failure is a wonderful way to build resilience and lighten everything up.
  6. Realise that even though it’s hard, it’s better to be living full out than hiding from your truth and walking through life at half-pace with a fake smile plastered on.
  7. Keep on going – this is a wonderful adventure, it’s not supposed to be straightforward, easy or fast. Keep following your heart to the activities that make you feel more YOU.

But I Thought I was Someone Else… Integrating the Shadow

Posted in Self-Care and Self-Healing

What if the person you thought you were, was just an illusion?…….Just a mask or overlay, and there was a whole different YOU that you needed to get to know?

Let me explain:

Who I thought I was and what I valued about ‘her’ as a person is slowly dissolving before my eyes.

Uh, hold on, that sounds a little melodramatic.  What I’m about to describe is more about full integration than dissolution.

It all began quite recently when I received my first ever astrological reading.  I’ve always been intensely interested in astrology and numerology but for some reason, it took me until now to get a birth chart done.

And as my learned astrologer Renee said; “Maybe there’s a reason for that”, because what I discovered about my chart, totally destabilised who I thought I was.

First things first, I’m a Virgo with my Moon in Cancer, and Mars and Black Moon in Leo…. but enough of that.

Now, I thought that as a Virgo, I had all the Virgo qualities and nothing else.  Turns out it’s not that simple, there’s so much more to discover when you take a proper look.

In fact, despite thinking I was a model Virgo – oh so methodical, organised, health-conscious, discriminating, neat, caring, analytical and wise – when Renee told me my birth chart reflected quite a chaotic set of influences, I was floored!

Me?

Chaotic?

Then over a period of weeks, it slowing began dawning on me and settling into my core…..

I’ve been battling against my true nature ever since I was a small child and it’s all related to my anxious personality, which when I look deeper, was a coping mechanism I created to hide from my natural gifts of sensitivity, creativity, empathy and intuition.

Many of us with these gifts face challenges around anxiety and depression due to our fears of being discovered, exposed.  We come to believe that it’s safer to withdraw, keep our perceptions and wisdom to ourselves and be isolated in our awareness, than it is to speak up or respond to the guidance we are receiving.

This is nobody’s fault, life just seems to do that to many of us, no matter the circumstances, and in my belief system, I feel these fears are based on experiences we’ve been through in other lifetimes.  I believe it’s my journey in this lifetime to consciously reclaim these parts of myself and to use them in the service of others.

I’ve always had a feeling of confidence when with I’m with people I know and trust.  But as child I would completely shut down and panic if I was taken somewhere new and forced to interact with strangers, even if they were other children. I was chronically shy.

In my childish efforts to handle my nervous disposition I focused on being as good and as nice as I could at school and at home and prioritised creating harmony, approval and peace around myself.

I also got good at doing things well and gained self-esteem from my school and sporting achievements. Oh, and my Mum and Dad loved and supported me as well. That helped 🙂

It was only when I finished high school and stepped nervously out into the wider world, that my confidence and faith in my abilities started to wobble.  My twenties were a very uncertain and bumpy time as I discovered that the ‘Tricia’ I had created as a child didn’t readily translate into the ‘take charge’ kind of woman I longed to be.

I was too concerned with keeping others happy and not assertive at all in expressing my needs.

Thank goodness that’s all over!

The fact is we change. We’re constantly changing and the more consciously open to change we are, the faster it happens.  What I’ve recently bumped up against is the reality that my perceptions of who I am are out of date.

I’ve been faithfully (more like doggedly) clinging to quite a few traits that are wearing thin from overuse and masking the deeper me.

Let me give you an example; feeling attached to the qualities of being organised and punctual has left me in denial of my natural tendencies to reject routine and repetition and run five minutes late to just about everything.

Anyone else with me here?

I’m ready to own my shadow qualities so I can relax more and just be myself.

It’s in the shadow qualities of selfishness, greed, envy, chronic tardiness, arrogance, nastiness and the gigantic catalogue of fears most of us have, that we find some of our deepest, most rich and fascinating experiences, opportunities for growth and creative ideas.

Don’t you think?

Anyway, I’m putting it out there for you to take a look at your shadow side and allow the darkness to balance the light.  I’ll be right there with you.

And it’s all there within each of us anyway, so we might as well acknowledge it fully and embrace the contrasts.

So much more to say here but that’s enough for now.

Much love, Tricia

5 Signs You’re Ready to Live Your Truth

Posted in Live Your Passions

You’ve done the work, the inner searching, healing, and forgiving. So are you ready? Ready to really start living as though you are free, courageous and bold?

Read on and I’ll share my 5 signs you are ready to live your truth, for real!

I know how it is. Some days it’s a resounding YES! Then some days I just feel like staying home and retreating from the world completely.  That’s normal and to be expected.  We can’t always be forging ahead, torches blazing, hearts on fire…

It’s the natural flow of things to have those quiet, introspective days.  Days for reflection, catching up on all the changes that have happened within and gathering strength for the next outward expression of who we really are.

We’ve all just been through a big opportunity for shedding old skins and out-moded beliefs. Here’s a magical feather I recently manifested with the assistance of some beautiful red-tailed black cockatoos.  I asked them for one and four days later, it materialised in my path. The birds’ message to me was:

“Know your power and live it”.

Have you felt yourself changing?

If you haven’t been letting that over-protective ego of yours hold you back, I’ll bet some of the following shifts have happened and had you dropping your old reactions and ancient stories about lack, victimhood and failure like hot coals from the forge of your soul…

Here are my top five signs you are sooo ready to begin living your truth and your potential for greatness in this here life of yours:

  1. No more drama – quitting creating drama in our lives and relationships as a distraction from facing up to what needs attention within ourselves is a sure sign we are ready to be more honest about what makes us happy.  When we have a life full of satisfying activities, loving people and calm, peaceful intentions, we no longer court drama. We’re too busy getting things done and loving our lives.
  2. No more excuses – when we take full responsibility for how we create our lives in every moment from our thoughts, beliefs and choices, we cease making excuses for why we aren’t doing what we know we would like to.  Excuse-making prevents us from being healthy in our bodies, facing up to unhappy situations at work and in relationships and tackling the big changes we’d like to see in our lives. When we no longer make excuses for ourselves and others, we can look at what’s really happening and see it for what it is.
  3. No more apologies – finding ourselves constantly apologising to others for our beliefs, short-comings, or behaviour is a sure sign something is seriously out of balance in our lives.  When we’re ready to come clean and be our amazing, authentic selves, we get to feel more relaxed with everyone around us.  There’s no one on this planet you need to justify yourself to.  I give you permission right now (provided your intention is to be loving, respectful and considerate 🙂 ), to stop apologising for who you are.
  4. No more blaming – one of the hallmarks of emotional maturity in a fully grown adult is the awareness that we are all responsible for how we live.  Blaming others for what we think we can’t do, have or BE is the ultimate in giving our power away and playing the victim.  Oh don’t worry, I’ve done this many times and still play this card on the odd occasion I’m not prepared to own up to my own role in the scenario at hand. Awareness is the key.
  5. No more playing small – when we are ready to really live our true potential as dynamic, creative sparks of the divine, we simply can’t persist with the idea of staying small and unseen. Nope, you’ve got to stick your head above the ramparts in order to shine your light and share your gifts.  Just know you are safe. You have many seen and unseen supporters just waiting to share in your jubilation and victory.  And the victory doesn’t have to be a leading role in a Hollywood film or a international best-selling novel.  No no no, it might simply be joining the local choir, dusting off that keyboard and playing with some creative writing ideas or buying some art supplies and having a dabble.

It’s time.  No more delaying or worrying.  Just take your first step and feel the magic begin to unfold around you.

Feel The Fear but Don’t Let it Run Your Life

Posted in Live From Intuition, and Live Your Passions

Two whole years ago I launched a dance class for women in a community hall in my town.  I’d only been living here for six months when I began this bold new venture and to be completely blunt, it failed.

Sure, a few women turned up, I had some fun (in only slightly greater measure than the terror), and I met the most lovely and inspiring 73 year old woman who became a friend and meditation buddy.

I wrote this post: The Healing Power of Dance as I began this short but sweet journey in 2012

These feet just wanna dance!
These feet just wanna dance!

So, here I am again, I’ve booked the space, created a flyer and started publicising it in facebook.  In just under two weeks I’ll be leading a healing dance class for women in my little country town.

This time I have a much bigger network of contacts to invite, I am more in tune with my inner guidance and open to receiving spontaneous inspiration moment by moment AND I’m still scared.

The fear is with me every time I think about it, when I ponder the music selection and when I tell anyone about it.

And….I’m doing it anyway.  I’ve spent decades wanting to dance for a living and now, at the ripe-ish age of 44, it would seem, now is the time.

My message here is that we all have creative energy and for many of us, it’s our life’s work here on planet Earth to uncover, release and live that energy every day.

I haven’t achieved anything yet, my first women’s healing dance class is running on Saturday 22nd November at 8.00 in the morning (wish me luck).  And yet I feel proud and calm and certain that this time it will take off and fly and that I will be along for the ride with joy, passion and freedom.

In essence, feeling fearful about a new idea, project or business venture just means we care a lot about it and ourselves.  All that’s needed is baby steps.  Take that first step and see where it leads.  Don’t let fear stop you from trying because what I’ve discovered is the more we face our fears and move ahead anyway, the more daring we become.

Keep these three things in mind:

  • Our fears can also be our excitement
  • Our fears can be our ego/mind just trying to keep us safe
  • Fear is just another emotion that when acknowledged, blessed and felt, is then free to morph into another expression of who we are.

Our family holiday in Spain took me right out of my comfort zone and everything turned out great. What I took from that experience was that’s it’s safe to take risks and why not simply trust that it will all be okay?

Small success leads to bigger success

Oh and by the way, that friend of mine in her seventies, well she’s booked her place to dance with me on the 22nd.  Cool huh?

For some personal support and guidance with facing your fears make an appointment with me .  We can connect over the phone or on Skype at a time that suits you.

Blessings, Tricia

Stepping Up

Posted in Create Abundance, Live Your Passions, and Trust The Universe

My very own Waratah grown in Pemberton (they only occur naturally in eastern Australia) Soak up the powerful energy!

Are you feeling called by life to step into or up to a more authentic version of you?

I am. Aaagh!

It’s a bit scary but ready or not, here I AM.

I’m ready to own my intuitive gifts as a woman working in the healing arts.  There, I said it.

Every client who comes to see me gets to experience my intuition through the information I share with them (which is often from their inner selves) during a session.  This so-called “information” comes as messages that seem to pop into my mind out of the blue, but upon confirmation through muscle testing, almost always trigger recognition or a “yes, that’s true” response in the person I am working with.

Now, having come from a background valuing university qualifications, scientific proof and quantifiable evidence, this intuitive caper has taken me many years to warm up to.  So much so that now, even four years after I first began sensing through my work as a kinesiologist, that I was receiving information that allowed me to help people more effectively and efficiently, I still double and sometimes triple check that the message is accurate by observing the physical sensation I am getting through my hand.

So, although this is a service I am providing every time I work with someone, so far I haven’t promoted my intuitive skills in any of my promotional materials or advertisements.  Well, that’s about to change because I sat down today and re-wrote my last newspaper ad so that it is clear to all who read it that I have this ability and that it enhances my work.

I’m ready for this next step and expect that I will attract a whole new group of people wanting to see me.  How wonderful it will feel to meet a new client knowing they see me in all my authentic glory!

It’s all about divine timing my friends.  Sooner or later you might feel this nudge, push or shove onto a bigger stage.

My best advice is to take a deep breath and STEP UP! There is nothing to fear here but having not tried.  We are here to be ourselves, fully, absolutely, no excuses, ourselves!

It feels true to me that when we come to the end of our lives, we have more regrets about what we didn’t do than what we did.

I see your light,

Tricia

A Day of Rest

Posted in Self-Care and Self-Healing

I woke up this morning feeling a little off-colour and to be honest, I’m still a bit shocked as to what I did next.

I rested!

OK, I’ll admit I did get up and have a shower and make a half-hearted attempt at helping with the school morning prep.  But as this only confirmed to me that I was indeed not feeling very well, I happily went back to bed and let my darling husband drop the kids at school.

This is a real breakthrough for me because I actually felt at peace with looking after myself and there was no guilt or denial at all!

Phew!  I did have a pretty big weekend catching up on seminars on Healing with the Masters (lots of strong healing energy taken on board), and last week was pretty busy for me in my work.  Hey, sometimes we all need a proper day of rest don’t you think?

Lying in bed this morning gave me a great opportunity to have my husband bring me a cup of tea and to read a very inspiring book lent to me by my good friend Renee calledThe Top Five Regrets of the Dying  (click to read them here) by Bronnie Ware.  So great to read an inspirational book written in an Australian voice.

One story in the book that brought tears to my eyes was about an elderly man in his last weeks of life who held a painfully strong regret that he had worked too hard and had failed to enjoy his retirement with his wife.  He told how he had delayed his retirement for fifteen years as a result of fearing the change involved with ceasing work and being preoccupied with gaining more financial security.  As it turned out, his wife passed away three months prior to his planned retirement date and they never got to spend that precious time together.  So sad, and yet I am guessing quite common for his generation.

This is a reminder to me that it is absolutely the time for us to all live much more consciously and from our hearts.  A great book that I feel will help propel me into the next stage of my life.

I’m still working on the details but a couple of weeks ago I woke in the morning with the inspiration to begin publishing some excerpts of my book , Red Lily Mama, right here in this blog.  This feels like a really fun and exciting step to take, as I am feeling a little de-energised about approaching any more publishers right now.

I just want to share what I have written with some like-minded women and here you are, my lovely blog readers.  I am planning to create some publicity for the blog to swell my readership a little first, but maybe it’s already happening….  I was amazed to see that my latest subscriber is reading my words from Estonia! (Welcome Eva)

The internet is so magical to me!

Here are a couple of snaps of an impromptu family walk we took a couple of weeks ago near our local lighthouse on Cape Naturaliste.

Be in your heart. Aaaah, surrender.
