Love Your Body and Ignite Your True Power

Posted in Self-Care and Self-Healing

I like my body.  I can even conjure up a gentle feeling of love for it most days of the week.  But you know what? I love it more when I hold my tummy in and when I don’t look too closely at my hips or the backs of my thighs.

I’m really sick of these feelings of judgement and dissatisfaction.  It feels nitpicky and petty at my age to be pin-pointing body parts to dislike and wish were different.  Haven’t I got more important things to give my energy to?

Well most of the time I do, but then I walk past a window or mirror and accidentally see my reflection and that little voice in my head says; “Oh look how my tummy bulges” or, “Man I’ve got a solid rear” or, “Can I still wear shorts in public?”

You with me?

Just try to imagine right now in this moment, how it would feel to instantly relax and simply know your body is perfect? **(read right to the end to learn about the big benefits of loving your body)

Because as I step into ‘observer’ role and look at myself from the outside, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my body.:

  • It works well
  • It fits quite comfortably into all the clothes I own
  • I feel good most days – that’s my body I’m feeling good in right?
  • My husband often tells me I look great

So what’s the problem?

I fear the problem is this little thing called social conditioning.  I grew up in the era of the super-skinny super-model, the first fashion magazines aimed at teens, a burgeoning weight loss industry and the biggy, AEROBICS. Can we, teens of the eighties blame all of our body image issues on those nasty g-string leotards? Okay, probably not but they were pretty bad right?

I know most of my issues of body dissatisfaction come from my culture rather than my family because food and weight-loss were non-issues for my tall, slim parents.  My mother was never on a diet, we always ate hearty meals, had a block of Cadbury’s in the pantry for Friday nights and had takeaway fish and chips every now and then.  I’ve always looked after myself fairly well and the largest I’ve ever been is a size 12 (um, that’s about an 8 in the U.S.).

What I’m saying is, my body and I suspect your body, isn’t the issue, the problem is how we feel about them.

We’ve been brainwashed at an impressionable age to believe it’s normal to criticise ourselves and be unhappy about how we look. And it’s all a load of complete nonsense.

All I can recommend is, stop the negative self-talk by monitoring your silent and spoken language about your appearance and cut out the insults.  Also, notice how you silently judge others by their appearance and use emotions like envy or disgust to mentally place them in limiting boxes labelled by how they look.

It’s time for a clear out of how we view and rate our own appearance and the appearance of others. How amazing would it be if we were all free of the superficial labeling and assumptions we create about the way we each look?

Here are some truly wonderful benefits you can look forward to manifesting in your life when you make peace with your appearance…

  • You will fully EMBODY your essence, beauty and divinity and make a deeper connection to your inner wisdom.  Our bodies are an extension of our spirit and soul, not separate and not ‘less than’.
  • You will instinctively begin to look after your body better with the food and exercise it craves
  • You will feel more confident to be yourself, dress how you like to dress and relax into your own personal style
  • Your relationships will be richer and more loving because you won’t be holding anything against yourself or others for how you or they look
  • You will feel free to get on with all the creative and work projects you’ve been procrastinating over because you will be in a state of higher energy, love and respect for yourself.

Promote Your Heart to CEO and Give Your Mind a Rest

Posted in Live From Intuition

I’ve got a pretty powerful mind. Heck, I spent years developing it and relying on it to guide me through life. For roughly the first 35 years of my life, my mind was in charge and my heart was relegated to the back seat.

I’d reached my mid-thirties – married, tick, children, tick, respectable profession, tick, mortgage in a nice suburb, tick. But ‘happy and fulfilled’ had gone missing from my life success checklist and I slowly began to realise, the path I was on wasn’t going to deliver the truly great life I was yearning for.

I’d been reading about this other way of life for oh about 15 years, but my clever mind still had me convinced I could think and problem solve my way through any challenge or dilemma.

But it wasn’t working, I’d become a victim to constant over-analysis, circular thinking and that head-achingly troublesome habit, worrying. And it wasn’t helping me move forward.

So what was ‘this other way of life’?

It involved learning to trust life despite the obstacles in plain view, the barriers created from the mind and the messages broadcasted from mainstream society.

It meant surrendering to the idea of there being a bigger picture in place for us all. That we are being looked after, guided and constantly and supported by a divine intelligence or power greater than ourselves.

And the big news flash I took quite some to accept:

Divine intelligence doesn’t connect with us through the mind, it communicates with us via the heart.

Now, I know many of you will want to conduct a thorough mental analysis of what ‘the heart’ actually means, so I’ll indulge you for a moment…

It’s that central place of peace within our being, somewhere physically between the heart and navel, a little back towards the spine. For me it feels like an open space in the region of my solar plexus and slightly up and back. Does that help at all?

This is where my intuitive or heart wisdom resides and it’s where I direct my awareness whenever
I find myself in over-thinking or worry mode. I also consciously take myself here when I’m working with clients, meditating, shopping, socialising, walking, doing yoga, cooking, eating… um pretty much all the time then.

Okay, so you get good at dwelling in the heart by meditating and getting comfortable with accessing this place of wisdom as much as possible in daily life. Check out my article, How To Access Your Intuition – Three Steps for help with this.

What I want to share with you here is how to tell the difference between the information that comes to you from the mind and that which is coming from your heart so you can begin living from this powerful place of discernment and deeper truth.

Here are some messages you will only receive from the mind, never the heart:

  • I must work harder
  • I’m not good enough
  • I hate that person
  • It’s all their fault
  • They are wrong and need to change
  • Life is hard/boring/unfair/lonely/scary

And so many more, but I think you get the gist. Our minds, slash egos are super skilled at running scare campaigns about how tough life is, how other people are to blame for our unhappiness and how much easier it would be maintain the status quo rather than push ourselves outside our comfort zone to improve our lives.

Now this doesn’t mean our hearts will always feed us strawberries and lollipops and it also doesn’t mean our minds don’t have an important role to play but be aware, your mind want you to stay the same, your heart wants you to grow.

The mind is great for organisation, planning, mathematics, keeping score, logical reasoning and scientific assessment and comparison.

However the mind should always play second fiddle because the heart is the master of everything else:

  • Accurate discernment and wise choices encompassing all available information
  • Creative and emotional expression
  • Our gut instinct to stay physically safe
  • Our ability connect with others authentically and feel love
  • The ability to take calculated risks and feel completely safe
  • Our connection to divinity, our unseen supporters and all other beings on our planet such as plants and animals and even rocks…

Sound good? All I can tell you is that since my heart’s been running the show, things have improved significantly and I’ve seen it happen for others too.

It may feel like a big shift at the start but really, the mind never actually wanted to be in charge, we just pushed it there and downgraded the power of the heart. We are designed to function from our centre, not our head, so how about you give it a try?
